Specialist treatment for back pain (including sciatica) is offered at Fulham Osteopathic Care concentrates on relieving back pain by re balancing structural and mechanical distortions within the body without the need for drugs or surgery. During osteopathic care sessions, Shanilla will focus on discovering the route of the problem and then on how to improve the functioning of your back muscles, discs, nerves, joints and bones. The practice is highly regarded and recommended, please see our testimonials for more information.
Specialist osteopathic treatment is also available for patients suffering with neck pain. Treatment to relieve neck pain uses gentle, specific positioning techniques to re-establish balance in the neck muscles and joints. Slight changes in pressure from the skilled, observant hands of the osteopath lead to the unwinding of strains and restrictions, allowing the tissues to soften and relax resulting in the diminishing of pains.
Fulham Osteopathic Care is ideally situated for patients travelling from surrounding areas of Central London such as Putney, Chelsea and Hammersmith. To find out how to reach us, if for example you are travelling from Putney, then visit our contact page.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation
At Fulham Osteopathic Care we provide tailored treatment programmes for those suffering from sports injuries. We ensure that your treatment sessions are directed in the best way and that they will result in a swift and successful recovery for you. During your sessions, dependent on your injury and what you are hoping to achieve, our osteopath will identify and adjust any incorrect movement patterns which may have developed as well as assessing your bio mechanics, muscular imbalances, postural technique and ergonomics.
First, there is a thorough bio mechanical and physiological analysis of your sport. Second is an evaluation to identify your strengths and weaknesses as they relate to the sport. A personalised remedial exercise program is then developed to help meet the demands of that sport and enhance your performance, including various outdoor exercises and drills which improve your speed, strength, power, endurance and flexibility for your specific sport. Treatment is mainly a structural approach using soft tissue techniques, articulation, mobilisations, manipulation, harmonics and neuromuscular techniques and electrotherapy.
Shanilla Isabel has successfully completed a degree in Sports Rehabilitation BSc (Hons). This nationally accredited programme is the top graduate level UK qualification for professionals within sport medicine and exercise. Sports rehabilitation graduates are sport medicine and exercise specialists. The thorough degree programme ensures that each individual achieves an extremely high level of professionalism along with top educational standards.

Sports Massage Therapy
Sporting activity and training can lead to an accumulation of tension and stress within your body, particularly your muscles. Just one hour of complete relaxation at Fulham Osteopathic Care can firmly massage any tight areas away which may have built up. Sports massage therapy is ideal for those suffering from muscle aches, pains and general muscle stiffness following sporting activity. The massage is able to stimulate circulation through powerful strokes, which in turn assists the elimination of waste material which may have accumulated in the body. Your recovery process is enhanced, discomfort is relieved, flexibility is maintained and the subsequent chance of injury is reduced. If you have a specific muscle injury this can also be looked at during your session (the emphasis of the therapy will be directed towards the area which is injured). Osteopathic treatment can lead to significant pain relief, achieving tissue repair which leads to a quick recovery.

Women’s Health: Pre Natal & Post Natal Rehabilitation
During pregnancy your body is going through major changes. Many of these changes are visible to you on the outside or you can feel them on the inside. However, there are also lots of other changes going on which you can't see or feel. Hormonal and weight changes are affecting your ligaments. Your growing baby is stretching and challenging your pelvic and abdominal muscles. Understanding your needs during this special time will help to improve you and your baby's overall health and wellbeing.
Being pregnant creates a special need for specific exercises and gentle treatments as your body experiences lots of musculoskeletal, physiological, as well as emotional changes both during and after giving birth. The changes you are experiencing can sometimes lead to neck pain, lower back pain, joint discomfort, pelvic pain and incontinence as well as carpal tunnel syndrome. It is possible to relieve all of these symptoms with gentle, safe treatment and exercises. Fulham Osteopathic Care's prenatal and postpartum exercise programmes consist of a comprehensive and thorough evaluation and individualized exercise session followed by a manual treatment session.
The treatment focuses on mechanical dysfunctions to alleviate pregnancy or postpartum aches and pains. The techniques are very safe and include pregnancy massage therapy, rhythmic joint mobilisations and deep breathing techniques.
As a student midwife and manual therapist, Osteopath Shanilla Isabel is skilled in assessing a woman’s symptoms and brings her special understanding of pregnancy to the Fulham Osteopathic Care Mothers Clinic.
Prenatal Exercise and Treatment: Improving comfort levels and being aware of the changes in your body during pregnancy can lead to a more stress-free nine months. This program is specifically aimed at helping you do just this. Osteopathy encourages you to meet the specific musculoskeletal demands of labour by developing good posture and relaxed and controlled breathing mechanics. The session also helps women to prepare for childbirth through flexibility training and strengthening the key muscles which are under stress during childbearing.
Postpartum Strengthening and Treatment: Women often need postural re-education and postural awareness during the postpartum period focusing on safe and proper body mechanics whilst caring for newborns. Aerobic exercise can help to improve overall cardiovascular health and endurance, enabling you to keep up with the demands of being a mother and to safely regain pre-pregnancy shape. Building your strength up through gentle training often means that you are better equipped to care for your baby. It also raises awareness of your own areas of discomfort and pain and how to best treat them following your childbearing months.
Post-Caesarean Care: After experiencing a caesarean birth it is often beneficial for women to undergo osteopathic treatments such as abdominal muscle strengthening, scar management techniques and advice, postural and body mechanics education as well as flexibility training.
Post Partum Episiotomy Care: Women may experience pain and discomfort as a result of a tear or episiotomy following a vaginal birth. Osteopathic treatments you can benefit from include abdominal muscle strengthening, scar management techniques and advice, postural and body mechanics education as well as flexibility training.
Pelvic Floor Care/ Bladder management: At Fulham Osteopathic Care we can help you address most problems which you may encounter after the birth. Common problems which Shanilla Diaz has experience with include stress incontinence (leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, and laughing) and pelvic floor pain. These problems can be helped using specific rehabilitation exercises.

Pregnancy Massage Therapy
The pregnancy treatment couch is specifically designed for the mother-to-be to relax comfortably in a face down position during osteopathy treatment. Padded and comfortable tummy and breast recesses mean pressure is removed from these areas, an elastic sling supports and moulds to the bump whatever shape or size it is.
This arrangement allows the torso to be positioned neutrally. It also enables the shoulder blades to sit closer together shortening and relaxing the muscles for easier access with less resistance. The end result is a very effective yet comfortable treatment.
